Scribbles on an ATM statement. I'm always writing.

As you can see from looking at the picture on the left, I’m always writing, even when I have to squeeze my writing onto a small bank receipt.

The main passions in my life have been and still are:

  • Writing – From age 13, when I became the editor of The Freemark Observer, a newsletter that I prepared for Joan Freemark AZA in Philadelphia, PA, writing has been a core part of my life. I fall back on writing when I’m tired, bored or trying to make sense of the world. I can’t help it, I’m always jotting down something, even when all I’ve got is a small receipt from a bank deposit. I write when I need to escape. I write when I need to understand a process. I write for artistic reasons. I write to have something in common with other writers and artists. I write to relax. I write to share my values. I write to write. I have never stopped writing, and I probably never will.
    • Over the last twenty-five years, my writing credits have included:

I was awarded a grant by the Nevada Arts Council to foster my writing and education

    • Six business books on telecommunications cost reduction techniques
    • Three books on integrity-based business-to-business telephone sales
    • Three produced plays
    • The Monster on Top of the Bed, a children’s book/CD combination plus collateral materials that entertains, quells night fears and is designed from the ground up to encourage children to write, read and draw.
    • Four children’s audio-books
    • Poetry published in major poetry journals and two forthcoming chat books of poetry
    • The End of All Times, a forthcoming sci-fiction fantasy thriller that drives home the point that humanity had better become less egocentric and be better stewards to the  world, or perish.  You may download a preview copy and learn more, here:  http://www.Harmony123.com
  • Marketing - I’ve always been fascinated by the ability to motivate people to want to buy a product or service. When you’re a writer, particularly a blogger or a WebMaster, marketing becomes a primary concern.  Why?  If no one knows what you’re writing, you ‘re not going to sell much.   “Okay,” you say, I write books.  I don’t need marketing.  All  I need to do is go to book signings.  If you believe that’s true, then I suggest that you call a bookstore and ask them, “I’m doing a book signing at your store in two months.  What marketing assistance can I provide, and do you think it will be a difference?”  I also suggest that you sit down with your publisher and tell him or her, “I’m not the slightest bit interested in helping you to market my books.”  (But, be sure to say “April Fools” within ten seconds of making that statement.  Then, whip out a marketing plan, and watch the smile spread across his or her face.)
  • Making a Difference in the world by passing on my values and philosophy - The primary motivation for The Monster on Top of the Bed and my forthcoming middle-grade Jeweled Planets series is to help children build their self esteem and deal with life more easily, especially my (not yet conceived) grandchildren.

This blog integrates all of the above. I hope you find it both interesting and helpful. Please comment. I’m open to any and all constructive comments– especially if you disagree with me.  Give me the opportunity to respond.  We’ll proabably both benefit.

Why the URL, “AlanJordan.com”? I thought about calling this site many names, but the bottom line is that it’s about me.

Would you want to type in “http://www.writingcollaborationandthemarketingofwriting.com?” I know I wouldn’t.

Enjoy the site!
